By Sally Bywater. Qualifying Final A Grade Penola had a strong start creating turnovers and goalies were finishing well. Lucindale’s nerves settled in the second quarter with some great turnovers by Nikki Smart and Holly Ogilvie to bring the scores back to even at the main break, 23 all. Accurate shooting by both Penola’s goalies saw them having a 6 goal lead coming into the fourth quarter, 38-32. Penola were too strong in the end to finish with a 9 goal win. A Reserves A very closely contested first half with both teams creating pressure down the court. Natalie Twigden was very effective in attack for Bordertown with Sally Skeer creating many options for her shooters in attack for Penola. By Nasik Swami. Vandals have wreaked havoc on a newly renovated $250,000 Market Square Playground, which was scheduled to open to the public this week. Naracoorte-Lucindale Council confirmed damage to the newly fitted equipment, including the soft flooring. Council CEO Trevor Smart told this newspaper that the repair works would come at a cost to the ratepayers and the community, and the opening of the recreational facility will be delayed while the soft-fall areas are replaced. Mr Smart said the council was looking at expanding CCTV coverage at specific sites in the area to curb the issue of vandalism and apprehend vandals. “We already have some CCTV coverage and will be looking to expand our coverage at specific sites. This had bought us some success in apprehending vandals (through SAPOL),” Mr Smart said. “If vandals are identifiable, they will be referred to SAPOL. We also rely on our community to […]
By Georgia Gill. Qualifying Final Div 1 – Penola vs Naracoorte Naracoorte had the better start in their clash against Penola, taking a four goal lead into quarter time. Led by Porter who was dominant throughout the match in the midcourt, Penola bounced back in the second as they went into halftime up by the smallest of margins. All four goalies shot with incredible accuracy in a skilled game of netball, particularly Modra-Ryan who held her nerve for Naracoorte in the third term to head into the last quarter with the two teams locked on 37 goals apiece. Penola found another gear in the final quarter to take the win by four goals, 49 to 45, earning the right to face minor premiers Kingston next weekend. By Nasik Swami. Plans have been tabled for the installation of multiple electronic noticeboard signs in the township of Naracoorte. The council agreed in its July meeting for the administration to investigate potential options and locations for the installation of multiple electronic noticeboard signs in the township. Looking at costs, one double-sided electronic noticeboard could cost ratepayers between $21,000 and $23,000. At the June 2023 ordinary meeting of council, Cr Craig McGuire provided some preliminary information on the use of electronic information signs from the Rural City of Murray Bridge (RCMB). In the meeting, it was resolved that council administration provide a report for the July 2023 council meeting on the possible use of an electronic information sign to be used as a communication tool within the township of Naracoorte. First up was the annual ceilidh held at the Scout Hall, Naracoorte in June. Lunch was enjoyed followed by an afternoon of entertainment. The crowd were entertained with the pipes and drums, fantastic Scottish highland dancing, a whisky toss and a raffle and wood auction. On the 1st of July the society held their annual day of the tartan event at the Bushman Arms pub where the pipes and drums played followed by the toasting of the tartan and a meal was enjoyed by all present.
