Referendum lessons learned

Your Say: Ken Grundy, Naracoorte
Lessons to be learned from the referendum include; no need to recognise A&TSI people in the Constitution because like us, they are already included as Australians. The Constitution is the book of rules about how the Parliament will operate. Mentioning any group or individual is not appropriate. Change is required […]

One-eyed voice

Your say: Cliff Hignett
Mr Pomery is a very one-eyed barracker for the Liberal party and thinks anyone who does not curtsy to Mr Dutton is a lower form of life. (NEWS 11-10-23) I can promise him that I am not, and have never been, a member of the ALP. Where possible, I vote for […]

Lethal humidity

Your Say: Ken Grundy, Naracoorte.
I was pleased to read Andrew Forrest’s recent comments where he acknowledged water vapour or humidity is a major factor affecting the climate. He called it “Lethal humidity”. I draw his attention to the massive burst of water vapour into the environment from undersea volcanic activity in the pacific. In […]

Embedded plastics & illnesses

Your Say: Heather Heggie, Naracoorte.
Australia seems to be losing several ‘wars’ with invaders – cane toads, buffel grass, wild pigs, feral deer, and many other introduced species of flora and fauna. Buffel grass burns catastrophically hot and destroys everything in its path. Plastic has become embedded in our buildings and vehicles and packaging. Insurance […]

Climate Change response

Your Say: Cliff Hignett, Naracoorte.
Phillip Cornish (NEWS 6-9-23) complained about our tendency to blame climate disasters on ‘man made climate change’ and not accept that climate comes in ‘cycles’. In fact, climate science is the study of climate cycles – and not just the yearly summer/winter cycle – caused by the tilt of earth […]

Wind Turbines

Your Say: Suzie Porter.
I am trying to contact anyone in the South East who may have had dealings with AWS – Australian Wind and Solar. As a result of problems with my turbine, investigations have shown that Energy Safe Victoria has banned AWS from installing wind turbines. Complaints of blades blowing off and parts […]

The Voice

Your say: WT Pomery, Naracoorte.
I am sure I am not the only one that is tired of the letters of Cliff Hignett and his support of the Voice. In the News of the 1st March he stated “I think the Voice is a good idea, not least because it came from Aboriginals themselves”. No […]

Climate change reality check

Your Say: Ken Grundy, Naracoorte.
It must be acknowledged that actions to combat climate change and in particular, emissions, are impacting on practically every aspect of our lives. Some more directly than others, but eventually all are involved. We have been encouraged from many sources including scientists, environmentalists, the media and even some school kids, […]

Voice referendum

Your Say: Ken Banning. The PM is asking Australians to vote for the VOICE as a concept, its functions and powers will be determined by the Labour party, the Greens and indigenous activists after the referendum. Very much like signing a blank cheque. Our PM has promised to deliver the Uluru Statement from the Heart in full numerous times. He claims it is only one page. The Uluru statement from the Heart as obtained under the Freedom of information act (FOI/2223/016) from the National Indigenous Australians Agency is 112 pages, the section titled Uluru Statement From The Heart (Uluru) is 26 pages. The PM has made it very clear that the reason for legislating the voice in the Constitution is that it will force Government and Govt departments to consult and LISTEN to the views of the VOICE. What happens if Govt makes a decision that is contrary to the […]

Land rights

Your say: Philip Cornish, Bordertown . There is much debate in recent times about who owns the land and who has the rights to it. Many of us have had the opportunity to buy and own our own land or property, but is it really ours? In the Bible, the book of Psalms chapter 89 says “The heavens are yours, the world and everything in it, for you created them all.” Actually, anyone who creates anything has the right to claim ownership, and so with this earth, none of us has had anything to do with its beginning, but the lord God does, so it is rightfully his. In reality we are only caretakers of what we have the privilege of living on or using for making a living. So who has the rights to claim ownership in the first place? In the book of Acts we read ” God who […]

We are one

Your Say: Name supplied but withheld by request. As an Australian we have an amazing mixed heritage culture, and whether you’re First Nation, displaced convict or a more recent Australian there is one thing that resonates in all of us: we are one. The notion of allowing segregation to be written back into our constitution is a step backwards. Drawing a line in the sand between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the rest of us in parliament is apartheid at its finest. There was a comment recently in your paper about mining and the voice to parliament. Mining pays $390 million to the Aboriginal industry yearly, combined with the $40 billion from Federal Government. That is a fair amount of money for 3% of the population that is not trickling down to the grassroots people in desperate need. The people who are supposed to look after them and […]
