Border Districts stumbled at the last hurdle before finals in the KNTFL’s round 16 last weekend. Borders have been top of the ladder for nearly the whole year, but lost in a surprise result to Naracoorte in the last round. Meanwhile second-placed Mundulla won a thriller over bottom side Kybybolite to leap ahead of Borders and steal top spot. Borders losing means they will have to face Keith in a difficult qualifying final match-up this Saturday, while Mundulla will enjoy a week off before playing in the following weekend’s second semi-final. Naracoorte came with a plan to be aggressive against Borders and it worked, with the Demons dominating the match after quarter time kicking 14 goals to 4 to win 15.14 to 5.12. Borders reportedly suffered injuries to add insult to the loss, with finals starting this week. Naracoorte was well served by midfielders Josh Gregg and Keenan Jacobs, and […]

Naracoorte and District Hockey Association: Preliminary Finals 19/08/2023

Naracoorte and District Hockey Association: Preliminary Finals 19/08/2023

By Amelie Nancarrow. Under 13’s Greenbottles def Redlegs Goals Greenbottles: Henry fry, Angus McGregor, Eliza Withers Best Greenbottles: Henry Fry, Harriet Waters, Jada Copping Best Redlegs: Seth Gale, Archie Olsen, Ollie Williams Plenty of finals excitement was among the Greenbottles U13’s when they took to the pitch against Redlegs. The Greens settled into the game working it between themselves whilst Seth Gale took his opportunities to plough hits into Redlegs attacking half. Repeatedly the Greens defence, Harrison Andrews and Phoebe Yates worked it out and back into attack. Eliza Withers made the first score for Greens with great pressure in the circle and great positioning allowing her to put it into the goals. Jada Copping pushed it up forward and more chances came. However, it was Henry Fry who chased in a second goal lifting the spirits of the Greens. Seth Gale had other ideas and continued to be a […]

I know there have been lots of twists and turns along the way as the SANFL tries to tell us where all of our local footy clubs are going to be playing next year. But the latest development I have to admit has hit me for six. I’m just confused now. Did I read it right last week when I read that Penola wants to leave the KNTFL and join the Western Border league in whatever form that league takes next year? I thought we had been presented with a clear cut option that we would be splitting into 2 leagues, with the Western Border disbanding. Four of their current clubs would join us in the KNT, with the other 2 joining the Mid SE league. There was plenty of opposition to that idea – mainly because of the big distances to be travelled by the clubs in the northern […]

Mundulla v Kybybolite 19 August 2023

By Barb Altus. The battle for the Tiger Cup was hard-fought and closely contested with the lead alternating each quarter until Mundulla took the lead in the last term and won by two goals. Kybybolite started strongly when George Malone and Brad Castine worked the ball forward where Hillier snapped accurately from the boundary, then […]

KNTNA A Grade match reports

By Sally Bywater. Lucindale v Penola Back to winter netball in Lucindale against Penola. These two teams always have a good tussle throughout the court. KNTNA Junior report – Round 16

By Georgia Gill In Focus – 13A Keith got the jump on Kingston in their clash shooting five goals in the opening term and holding their opponents scoreless. A more evenly contested second quarter thanks to Rasheed and Ogilvie kept Kingston in the game as both teams scored five goals apiece. The third quarter was a mirror of the second, both teams trading goals as the margin remained at five at three quarter time. Bennett and Zacker found another gear for their side as Keith rallied and extended their lead out to nine, winning 27 to 18. Kyby had a strong start against Mundulla with Redding shooting beautifully to be up by nine at quarter time. The second quarter was much more evenly contested as Mundulla found their rhythm with excellent passages of play from both Excell and Bennett. The third quarter saw Kyby assert themselves as a top five […]

Naracoorte Golf Club Ladies results 9th August 2023

By Sally MacLeod Gus Hole kindly sponsored last week’s Stableford round when 21 ladies competed for the very generous prizes donated in memory of his mother, Lorna Hole. He has moved away from Naracoorte, so it is great to see that he is still keen to support the ladies competition from afar. The A grade winner was Trish Brooker with 35 points and the runner up was Di McCully with 28 points.   In B grade, Felicity Miles was thrilled to score 41 points – she is in cracking form having played a perfect game when competing against me in the Vice Captain’s Trophy quarter finals, last Monday. Needless to say she won on the 15 th hole. The runner up was Sylvia Adams who is continuing her good form with 36 points.  Ball run down winners were Jenny Castine with 33 points and Elaine Zerk with 32 points. Nearest the […]

NLC hangs up on Telstra

NLC hangs up on Telstra

By Chris Oldfield AN unexplained drop in mobile phone services throughout the district, Telstra profits, Optus and looming satellite mobile services are among reasons the Naracoorte Lucindale Council has rejected Telstra’s second call for ratepayer cash. But the main reason is cost-shifting and ratepayers being asked to pay for a taxpayer funded federal government responsibility. The issue arose for a second time at the council’s June meeting. Cr Monique Crossling invited In2it owner Daniel Hayes to address the meeting on behalf of Telstra. Mr Hayes explained he was a member of the Tatiara Economic Development Committee, and was originally against Telstra’s 27 mobile tower proposal which sought council funding. Mr Hayes also highlighted the problem everyone was having with Telstra throughout the district – an unexplained drop in signal. That included Telstra calls dropping out while driving between Naracoorte and Lucindale – apart from when the SE Field Days were […]
