Keith v Mundulla 22 July 2023

Keith v Mundulla 22 July 2023

By Barb Altus The lead alternated multiple times during the very closely contested match before Mundulla retook the lead at the end of the third quarter and finished strongly to win by 28 points. After some minor scores the Tigers goaled first when Hinge and Stephan drove the ball to Guy who kicked truly, then Studham and King slammed the ball to Hinge whose banana kick from the boundary close to goal was accurate. McAuley, Innes, Bibby and Seb Schreiber were strong for Keith who replied when Wilson, McNeil and Colby Read worked the ball to Wade who made no mistake, and the Crows attacked repeatedly but only minor scores ensued before the Moots’ Noll and the Mosey brothers directed the ball to Hinge who kicked truly and at quarter-time Mundulla led 3-2-20 to 1-5-11. Keith goaled first in the second term when Innes and Hender forced the ball to […]

Keith v Mundulla 22 July 2023

Footy report

The evenness of the KNTFL was underlined again on Saturday with some very close results and a near upset of the year. Bottom side Kybybolite led for most of the day before succumbing to top team Border Districts by just two goals in what would’ve been the upset of the year so far. Kyby led by 4 points at the last change but Borders’ class players stepped up when it mattered to win 12.6 to 10.6, with Mackenzie Bower kicking 4 goals and on-baller Mark Quinn 3. Mundulla powered away in the last quarter to have an important win over Keith. Mundulla led by only two points at the last change, but kicked four goals to none in the last quarter to win 13.10 to 8.12 and hold onto second spot on the ladder. James Hinge is running into some good form and kicked six goals for Mundulla, while Blake […]

50/1 shot continues stable’s roughies record

50/1 shot continues stable’s roughies record

By Paul Mitchell A 50/1 success last week added another chapter to the Jaensch stable’s history of producing long-priced winners.  Debutante Gusty Way saluted at the Murray Bridge midweek meeting (paying $55.60 on the TAB tote), but local mother-son training team Sue and Jason Jaensch hardly fell off their chairs after the one-length win.  “No, we weren’t surprised,” said Naracoorte-based Sue. “We knew he went alright.”  Gusty Way’s win sparked memories of the stable’s past winning longshots, headlined by a remarkable two-day double that saluted at odds of around 6000/1.  “I went to Melbourne one day and won a race at 75/1 with Bronze Roulette, who went on to win the Swan Hill Cup,” Sue recalled.  “And the next day we had a maiden horse win at 82/1.”  Sue recalls Madja blowing punters out of the water at 100/1 at Stawell one day, but a Naracoorte Cup roughie is her […]

Running for Premature Babies

Running for Premature Babies

By Sophie, founder of the charity Running for Premature Babies I started this charity 17 years ago after losing all three of my prematurely born triplets to their prematurity. I wanted to reach out to you as a local young man in your community who was born at the same gestation as my triplets but was lucky enough to survive, and who is now doing something amazing and I would so love for your local Naracoorte News to publish this story! Lachy Miles, aged 25, is taking part in the Run Melbourne running event on Sunday 16 July to support my charity, which is raising funds for a lifesaving neonatal ventilator for the Monash Newborn NICU, which will save the lives of premature babies. Lachy’s story is remarkable. Born at 23 weeks gestation he wasn’t expected to survive this premature birth and was given a 20% chance of survival. Lachy […]

Shitbox Golf Challenge

Shitbox Golf Challenge

By Erin Mcwaters The Shitbox Rally Spring 2023 team of Shannon and Erin, along with the talented Lucindale Country Club catering crew hosted the Lucindale Survivors Shitbox Golf Challenge on Sunday, June 11 th , and “Sherlee the Shitbox” turned up with the perfect weather in the boot! The Shitbox Rally participants raise awareness and funds for the much-needed Cancer Council, and to even get off the start line, all 250 teams need to raise a minimum of $5k to start the Rally, in a car worth less than $1,500, which leaves Port Douglas in October bound for Adelaide via Birdsville. The aim of the day was to fundraise, however a lot of fun was had by the 19 teams entered, including teeing off on the 1 st off of a tyre, navigating through obstacles on multiple greens, nearest to pins, nearest to rope and longest drive and a $5 […]

Footy preview

KNTFL football teams return to the field this Saturday after the state championships weekend off, with just 6 rounds left in the season now. It looks like the top 5 teams have a break on the rest of the competition, with three wins between 5th-placed Naracoorte and 6th-placed Padthaway, but a lot can change in 6 weeks. This Saturday’s stand-out match of the round is between current front-runners Border Districts (1st on the ladder) and Kingston (4th). Borders are one win plus percentage clear in top spot, while Kingston needs the win to stay in the hunt for an important top three spot which comes with a double chance in the finals. Interestingly, Kingston have been the only team to beat Borders this season, prevailing by 10 points in a great game back in round 2. Borders have done nothing wrong since then with 8 straight wins, and they will […]

Running for Premature Babies

Footy report

There were no surprises in last Saturday’s round 10 matches in the KNTFL A grade competition, with all five favourites winning. The results mean the top five is almost set, with a three-game break plus percentage between the top and the rest, with 6 rounds left in the season, In the clash of local traditional rivals, winless Kybybolite took it up to the more favoured Naracoorte at times, but the Demons prevailed in the end 16.7 to 10.12. Three of the four quarters were very even, but Naracoorte dominated the second quarter with 5.2 to 1.3 to set up the win. Zac Peake and Sam Willson combined for 10 goals for Naracoorte and Rory Taggert was named best, while Brad Castine kicked 4 goals and was again best for Kyby along with Bill Laurie. In a rematch of last year’s grand finalists, it was the losing team on that occasion […]

Borders eye premiership

Border Districts once again underlined their premiership credentials for the 2023 KNTFL A grade season with a convincing win over another top contender last Saturday. Playing against fellow top 5 side Naracoorte at Naracoorte’s home ground, Borders raced out of the blocks to have a hold on the game at quarter time. They led 44-7 at quarter time, and built on that lead for the next two quarters before Naracoorte won the last quarter narrowly to go down 17.16 to 10.5. Borders’ former league medallist Mark Quinn was in top form again and was BOG, Zac Richards continued his excellent season and Mackenzie Bower kicked 6 important goals. Naracoorte was well served by Nathan Davey and Keenan Jacobs, and Rory Taggert kicked 3 goals. Padthaway kept its slight finals chances alive with a solid win over battling Bordertown, pulling within two wins of the top 5. The Lions led by […]
