KNTFL 2023 Reserves Grand Final: Mundulla v Keith

By Barb Altus. In front of a very large crowd the first quarter was closely contested and low-scoring. Mundulla scored a point first, and Keith replied in kind, then Henry McMurray directed the ball to Dylan Qualmann who soccered the ball accurately to score the first goal of the match, and the Crows attacked again quickly but another behind resulted. Callum McMurray, Wilsdon, Mitchell and Ryan were prominent for Keith and Halliday, Weatherald and the speedy Scown were working hard for the Tigers who attacked repeatedly but only scored three behinds before the Crows also registered another behind, then the Moots’ Pickering, Packer and Daniel Burgess drove the ball to Billy Wiese who kicked truly, and at quarter-time Mundulla led by the smallest possible margin: 1-4-10 to 1-3-9. There was even less scoring in the dour, tight struggle of the second term, with three points to the Tigers followed by […]

The first quarter started with two minor scores to Naracoorte, then a behind to Kybybolite, followed by two more minor scores to the Demons, the second of which hit the post. Kyby rushed the ball down the wing to Tom Ellis who kicked the first goal of the match, before the Dees’ […]

2023 KNTFL Junior Colts Grand Final: Naracoorte v Kybybolite

By Barb Altus. Naracoorte started very strongly, with a goal to Ashton Reti inside the first minute, before Darcy duRand kicked truly at the two-minute mark, then Tommy Taylor made no mistake four minutes in, and goaled again to give the Demons four goals in six minutes. They kept attacking but the Kybybolite defence rushed two behinds before the Dees’ last shot was another minor score so at the first break Naracoorte led 4-3-27 to 0-0-0. Kyby scored first in the second term, but only registered a behind before the Demons’ T Taylor goaled again, before Pilkington registered the Tigers’ first goal seven minutes in. The Dees replied with two goals to Thraviz Coronel in as many minutes, followed by two more behinds, so at half-time Naracoorte led 7-5-47 to 1-1-7. Levi Moss, Charles Nolan, Harry Brewin, Jack Pilkington, Max Crossling and Thomas Malone were playing well for Kybybolite and […]

KNTFL 2023 Reserves Grand Final: Mundulla v Keith

Footy report

Either Border Districts or Kingston will win their first ever KNTFL A grade premiership this weekend after both qualified for the grand final. While Border Districts won their way into the grand final the previous week, Kingston defeated the hot favourites Mundulla in the preliminary final at Bordertown last Saturday in an absolute thriller. In what could be a first for the league, double extra time was required to split the teams after they were tied at full time, and also after one period of extra time. Perennial grand finalists Mundulla started the game the best to lead by 8 points at quarter time, before Kingston took control in the second to lead 46-27 at half time. Mundulla narrowed the margin to 13 points at the last break, but were kicking inaccurately with a score of 5.12, trailing Kingston’s 8.7. In a frenetic last quarter, Mundulla came hard again, winning […]

2023 Reserves Preliminary Final – Kingston v Keith

By Barb Altus. Kingston opened the scoring with two behinds in the first ten minutes, then they locked the ball in their forward line where Tapfield kicked truly. Keith’s Johnson and Wilsdon were working hard in defence and Callum McMurray, Mitchell and Mitchell were attacking strongly, and the Crows replied two minutes later when Ryan booted the ball goalward where it rolled through the big sticks, before the Saints’ Benson turned defence into attack and Rothall made no mistake. The Crows attacked again but only a minor score ensued and at quarter-time Kingston led 2-2-14 to 1-1-7. The Saints again scored a behind in the first minute of the second term before Watson squeezed the ball through the goals from a tight angle. Keith replied with a minor score, followed by a major by Mitchell, then Farmer worked the ball to Trowbridge who kicked accurately. Kingston’s Benson, Cousins, Stenner and […]
