By Michael Waters Goblins enjoyed their first win of the season in A grade table tennis when they accounted for Troll, winning 8-4. For Goblin, Steve Biggins won 2 singles, as did Tylor Edson, filling in for Dom Schultz, while Peter Lawrie won 1 single. Troll Captain fill in player Neil Golder won 3 singles, including a terrific match against Steve Biggins, Neil winning in 5 sets, 8-11, 11-3, 11-9, 9-11, 9-11. Peter Staude also filled in for Troll, winning 1 single. Goblins took out all three doubles to give them the edge.  Many thanks to Tylor, Neil and Peter for filling in. Medusa pushed their way into fourth spot on the ladder with an 8-4 win over second placed Centaur. Rates up at Robe

By Chris Oldfield Ratepayers at Robe will have an average rate increase of 7.7 percent, which mayor Lisa Ruffell believes is “fair and reasonable in the current climate”. Within that “average” residential property owners will pay around 2.9 percent more. At the top end of the rate rise sits primary producers who are likely to see their rates soar by 11.95 percent, or more. Commercial property owners will see a rate reduction of around 3.41 percent. Additionally, waste management services and catchment water management charges at Robe will both increase by 7.7 percent. Meanwhile, the Landscape levy slapped on property owners by the region’s SA Landscape Board will soar by 8.4 percent, hitting rural property owners the hardest. Judging for the highly anticipated event will return to Terra Rossa territory at the Coonawarra Hall from Monday, October 16, with previous LCWS panel chair Philip Rich set to take over from Tasmanian winemaker Sam Connew as chief of judges. Philip brings more than 25 years of experience as a passionate retailer, educator, wine show judge and wine writer. By Tim Delaney, MLA Cattle: LWB 34 – LWY 303 – LWC 93 – OAY 35 Cattle numbers increased to 463 which was up 49 head on last week. Quality was mixed from very good pens of younger and grown cattle don to plainer secondary types in the Winter market. Heavy to medium weight cows were also offered and more bulls came forward. A smaller field of  buyers attended and there was less competition coming from the gallery. There was also some feeder and restocker interest at times. Younger and the grown cattle in the trade run sold from mainly from unchanged to 10c weaker and up to 15c/kg back in places. However a sale of outstanding yearling steers sold to 365c and yearling heifers reached 352c/kg. Heavy  cows sold to softer demand selling 4c to 10c/kg cheaper.
