Stable chugging along
by Paul Mitchell The Murphy stable in Naracoorte is chugging along nicely, with a number of horses performing well across SA tracks. “Duke of Anjou has been thereabouts lately,” said trainer Sue Murphy. “He’s just had a bit of bad luck, but he’s knocking on the door. “Hasta La Chilly is the new kid on the block, and he ran second at Gawler recently. “We’ve got a couple of others who have just turned four but haven’t raced yet… “They’re ready to go.”

Your Say: Ken Grundy, Naracoorte The impact on the farming community resulting from the legislation in WA requiring aboriginal approval prior to basic farm jobs like fencing is of concern to all farmers across the nation. Already similar restrictions apply in parts of Victoria while other States are likely to follow. Concerns range from simple inconvenience to delays and costs for approval and court challenges ahead. All of this when we have always considered Native Title is automatically extinguished when freehold is the recognised form of legal tenure. The meaning of rights attached to private property are being deliberately blurred and the good effort from the WA Farmers CEO, Trevor Whittington to seek legal opinion warrants support.
