Lucindale Ladies Golf: 30th August 2023

Lucindale Ladies Golf: 30th August 2023

By Rosie Legoe. Fine weather prevailed for the 18 golf ladies who played the 3 rd & final round of Bricey’s SE Collision Repairs Par competition. The members of our club would like to thank Leon for his continued loyal support of the Lucindale Country Club, we’re all very grateful. It was also the final round of the Olympic Golf Game which was instigated this year after an enterprising member’s suggestion. It’s a fun & novel competition comprising of 2 specific rounds in each of the Olympic Stroke, Stableford & Par games during the golf season. The best score from one of the rounds in each event is accumulated to discern the Olympic Gold & Silver winners. We were thrilled to see Annie Haynes back at the club after her various flights overseas & the Kimberley area. We were also thrilled to welcome Daniel Flint from Wangolina who offered a […]

#matessavingmates Inc.

#matessavingmates Inc.

By Mel Tiver. #matessavingmates Inc. is a not for profit group which was started after a founding member lost her husband to drink driving last year. This started a manic desire to try and prevent drink driving from shattering the lives of other families and small communities. We sought the sound advice from a friend with extensive business experience and managed to entice her to join the crew. We then went ahead and created a group that can do what we want it to do, be all about community, education and maybe even save a life. Through fundraising including a social knockout bowls night which will be held annually in Padthaway and generous donations from businesses and corporations we were able to purchase a Toyota Hiace 12 seater bus for people to hire. We now have our bus ready for hire and being a smaller bus, we’re hoping people will […]

What’s the motive?

What’s the motive?

By Nasik Swami. A former Naracoorte mayor has called on the public to question the motives of anyone seeking division in the country. The call from Ken Grundy follows the Commonwealth Government’s referendum, which will create an Indigenous Voice through a change in the constitution. Mr Grundy said the public had every right to contact its elected members of parliament to voice their concerns about the proposed changes. “Therefore, we are all recognised, and to grant an extra avenue for any group to influence the representatives will cause division. “It will set a precedent for other groups to also have a Voice. Where would it stop? We should question the motives of anyone seeking such division.” Mr Grundy said the Australian Prime Minister was determined to have the Voice included in the Constitution. “Indigenous support gained through several hundred committees stands at around $38billion per year. One committee, the NIAA, […]

By Kate Laver, Stacey George and Yaz Dedovic at Flinders University. Naracoorte Golf Club Ladies results: 16th and 23rd August 2023

By Sally MacLeod. Here goes for two weeks of golf – a bit late with my article for last week’s paper! Two weeks ago, Helen Cox and Chris McDonald kindly sponsored the Stableford team’s event, as they have done for many years. A big thanks to them for their ongoing and generous support. There were 19 golfers in the field – 4 teams of 4 players and 1 team of 3 players. Team winners were determined from the best aggregate score. The team of three, consisting of Trish Brooker, Jill Steen and Sally Macleod were the winners with a combined 3 person score of 100 Stableford points. Sally Macleod scored 38 points, which was the best individual score of the day. The runners up were Robbie Talbot, Elaine Zerk, Kate Falconer and Vicky Scallion with a score of 126 points. Unlike past weeks, all four nearest the pin prizes were […]
