Bill keeping Naracoorte on track
By Paul Mitchell By necessity, the Scouts’ ‘be prepared’ motto also fits the philosophy of long-serving Naracoorte Racing Club track manager Bill Vine. The club’s next scheduled meeting is more than two months away, on Friday 20 October, but a combination of recent history and old-fashioned pride in performance has the local track race-ready 365 […]
Footy Report
Mundulla made a pre-finals statement by comfortably beating fellow top five team Kingston in last Saturday’s KNTFL match of the round. After an even start, Mundulla pulled further away the longer the game went, to win 16.16 to 11.8. Gun goalkicker James Hinge was again in good touch with 5 goals and captain Nick Mosey was named best player, while Kingston’s young locals Ethan Murdock and Jack Harding were among the best for the seasiders. Mundulla’s win means the Tigers remain within reach of top spot on the ladder, while Kingston now has no hope of making the top 3 and will play in the first knockout elimination when finals arrive. Kybybolite continued its improved recent form with a thrilling win over Padthaway, despite a masterclass from ex-AFL goalkicker Daniel Menzel. Kyby led by 6 goals early in the last quarter before Padthaway stormed back, with Menzel kicking 4 goals […]
Leave the KNTFL alone
Opinion: Bush Turkey It’s a real shame that the top 5 teams in the KNTFL put such a gap on the rest of the comp so early in the season. Borders, Keith, Mundulla, Naracoorte and Kingston have pretty much been confirmed as the finalists right from about round 7 or 8, which has sucked a lot of the interest out of the finals race. The shame of it is, just looking at the ladder as a snapshot would give you the idea that it’s a competition split down the middle with the top 5 being so much better than the bottom 5. Kingston in fifth spot is 4 wins ahead of Padthaway in 6th, so the top half the ladder is streets ahead of the bottom half. But the truth of it is, and the reason why I think we have such a healthy competition, is that our bottom half […]
Mundulla v Kingston 29 July 2023
By Barb Altus Kingston goaled first and led midway through the first quarter before Mundulla, who were wearing black armbands to commemorate the passing of Tatiara legend and former Coach Eddie Dickinson, took the lead and extended it for the rest of the match to win well. At the start of the first term the Saints’ Matsouliadis slammed the ball forward where Wiseman kicked accurately forty seconds in. Kingston followed up with a couple of minor scores before the Tigers’ Nick Mosey and Hinge drove the ball to Stephan who kicked truly, then Ridgway, Guy and N Mosey worked the ball to Hinge who made no mistake. The Saints replied when Tom Rogers, Matsouliadis and Lockwood directed the ball to Fahlbusch-Moore who goaled, then took the lead when Lockwood and Braithwaite drove the ball to Harding who kicked accurately. Kingston had the majority of the play, but the Moots kept […]

Naracoorte A grade table tennis report
By Michael Waters In the battle between top team Pegasus and bottom team Goblin, Pegasus were lucky to come out on top with an 8-4 win. Pegasus won all three doubles that gave them the edge. For Pegasus, Mike Waters won 3 singles and Kevan Addicott and Frank Lacey won a single each. Goblins Steve Biggins and Peter Lawrie won 2 singles each. The match of the night was between the improving Peter Lawrie and Frank, Peter just getting there in 5 sets, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5, 15-17, 13-11. It doesn’t get much closer than that. Centaur remain in second spot on the ladder after they accounted for Troll, the final scoreline was also 8-4. For Centaur, Alan Martyn is having a fine season and he won all his singles, including a win in 4 sets over Troll Captain Jordon Miller, Alan winning 11-8, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8. Teammates Gommo won 2 […]
Naracoorte Golf Club Ladies results 26th July 2023
By Sally MacLeod Koonara Wines kindly sponsored the Stableford round last Wednesday. They provided prizes for both winners and runner ups which was very generous and we thank them for their ongoing support of our ladies competition. There were only 18 ladies in the field – numbers have been declining over the past weeks which is disappointing when the course is looking so good. It was a beautiful sunny winter’s day making for some reasonably good golf scores. Both grade winners were decided on count backs. Congratulations to Kim Trueman who won the A grade with 35 points on a count back from Robyn Hage. Kim’s new buggy is obviously helping her golf! The B grade was very close with five ladies scoring 33 points! The winner was Trish Brooker and the runner up Di McInnes. Ball run down winners were Bernie Richards, Pat McCully and Sylvia Adams who all […]
Lucindale Ladies Golf
By Sandy Lye The Lucindale Lady Golfers struck the jackpot last Wednesday with a fine day so no excuses for bad scores on account of the weather were heard. Naracoorte Homemakers were the sponsors of a stroke round and Fionna McInnes had a day to remember coming in with a tremendous net 66 (including a par on the long par 5 18th!) to take out the B division from Petrina Smith who returned a net 73. Petrina had a good day on the par 3s taking home the ball for nearest on the 12th and 16th (in 2 -B grade). Nicole Hocking continued her good form of late coming in the top 2 for the 3rd week in a row with net 70 closely followed one shot behind by Megan Watson. Nicole had the best score off the stick for the day – 87. One golfer (?) who shall remain […]
Bridge Club results
By Bridging the Gap On Thursday we played 6 tables using 24 boards, so once again were able to head to the small room where it was warm. Winners playing North/South were Ruth Dennis and Jill Perkins and East/West were Helen Edwards and Margie Porter who scored an amazing 68.91%, so well done to them especially as they had not partnered before. Interesting hands today and after I had a message from one of the players asking me why had they not scored when they had won the board, I had a bit of a tally of the boards we played and this had occurred twice in today’s play. Both times it affected the East/West players. On board 21 the contract was won by two South bidders and two North bidders, no-one made their contracts, going down either by 2 or 3 tricks, giving their opponents 3 or 7 points. […]
