Kybybolite U16s Girls Football team

Kybybolite U16s Girls Football team

By Sarah Ottoson A big thanks to the Naracoorte Community News and their Give Back Program. While only in our second official season, the Kybybolite U16s girls football team and support staff have worked hard to both learn and share knowledge, skill and opportunity with our new players and supporters interested in AFLW. This includes involvement in a development program with the Glenelg Football Club, SANFL led Q&A opportunities with Crows Players, the start of a Green Shirt umpiring program for new umpires and much more planning is in the pipeline to further seek support and opportunity for our players. Thanks to The News for being one of our great supporters – from all of the U16 players, organisers and supporters. Editor’s Note: With this Give Back donation of $500 we have reached $81,152 donated to local service, arts and sports groups. Please register anytime by emailing news@naracoortenews.com.

Bordertown Days for Girls

Bordertown Days for Girls

By Rose Milton The Bordertown Days for Girls group is thrilled to receive a grant from News Gives Back. “We create and distribute washable hygiene kits, and one will last a girl about 3 years. This gift will assist a girl to attend school every day of the month, even during her period. In some countries period products are too expensive for the locals, and sometimes not even available. Being washable there is no problem with disposal like we have in Western countries. The money we receive will be used to purchase fabrics and cotton to create more shields and pads, and also purchase flannels, soaps and undies for the kits. “Since our group started up in late 2014, we have sewn about 2,600 kits. Initially they were being taken by volunteers to various Asian countries. Our focus on distribution in the poor Tamil Area in the Hills Country, Sri […]

Apsley Action Group

Apsley Action Group

By Tanya Turner The Apsley Action Group was established around ten years ago, when a group of like-minded people were keen to get some projects off the ground for our little town. Some of these projects have included the mural that is painted on the public toilets, maintenance of Federation Corner, the Bullock and Wagon Structure in town, the introduction and production of the monthly newsletter – The Maggie Chatter, the half basketball court at the park and the replacement of the Historical signs along the Historical walk. When the town had no local meeting point the monthly schnitzel night was introduced. This gave locals a place to catch up and have a social night out, sometimes with a guest speaker. The Action Group was also responsible for the development of the Website many years ago and now one member still maintains it, keeping the information up to date for […]

Naracoorte Inter Church Council Chaplaincy fund

Naracoorte Inter Church Council Chaplaincy fund

By Norma Davis The Naracoorte Interchurch Council (made up from members of the various Christian Churches in Naracoorte) has been supporting the School Chaplains, now called Pastoral Care Workers, in Naracoorte’s three public schools for over 40 years. It is our pleasure and delight as ICC members to share in the appointment of Pastoral Care Workers to the three public schools in Naracoorte. The school benefits from having an extra staff member, who is a staff member without a class to teach, and who is therefore free to help children and teachers in many different ways. The Interchurch Council works under the umbrella of S.A. Schools Ministry Association through which PCW’s are paid the Federal and State funding which is allocated each year. That funding pays for about 12 hours of paid work each week. As well, twice a year we seek donations from the churches, from church goers, from […]

Lucindale Economic Development Board Inc (LINC)

Lucindale Economic Development Board Inc (LINC)

By Abigail Goodman The Lucindale Economic Development Board Inc (LINC) aims to be the link between community ideas and making them happen. It was established 20 years ago to promote the development of the Lucindale district and community by developing projects, identifying funding opportunities and acting as an umbrella body for various community organisations/projects. LINC organises the community Christmas party each year, including a parade and Santa visit, and in 2022 we also had market stalls run by local children and highly competitive yabby racing! One of our current projects is raising funds to support a Lucindale community member to participate in the Limestone Coast Emerging Leaders Program. The Program develops personal leadership skills, knowledge of the region and a broad network of professional and community contacts. Participants will grow in emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and skills in working with and leading others, which will benefit their communities and our entire […]

Keith Tennis Club

Keith Tennis Club

By Rochelle Schenscher It’s not everyday you get to meet a sporting icon but these lucky girls from The Keith Tennis Club got that chance.  During the Adelaide International in January clubs were invited to participate in a Red ball challenge. Over 100 kids aged 5-8yrs participated, teams of four played 10 minute half court matches. The kids then had the opportunity to have a hit with some tennis players including grand slam champion Petra Kvitova and Aussie John Peers. It was a fantastic programme and a privilege to be able to be a part of the day. The Keith tennis club play Friday nights under lights. We have had a great season so far with the weather being kind to us. We have over 40 members of the club with lots of new faces having signed up this season. We have also been lucky to have tennis coaching for […]

Naracoorte Motorcycle Club

Naracoorte Motorcycle Club

By Brenan Voss The Naracoorte Motorcycle club is a family orientated club that caters for all levels of riding ability. Our specialty is being family and fun orientated with regular ‘scrub ride days’ often held throughout the year at various locations throughout the Limestone Coast, and when the weather allows our track days at our main facility on Gum Point Road just south of Naracoorte.  The Main Track facility is easily accessible by our members to come and ride when they choose where they can ride as much or as little as they like. This flexibility would be one of very few across Australia and is once again what makes us such a unique club.   We are a non-for-profit club and therefore we rely on membership and sponsorship money to fund the development of facilities and the track maintenance. There are current plans in place to perform a major upgrade […]
