Mid- Year Reports After a productive and jam-packed first semester, it’s that time of year when we celebrate all the learning our students’ have been involved in and the great improvements that have been achieved in our school. Our teachers spend a great deal of time reflecting and writing about each child’s learning, progress and future goals. When you receive the reports tomorrow, please take the time to go through them carefully with your child, supporting important reflections and goals about their learning journey. Use this wonderful opportunity to celebrate their growth and set new goals with them for the remainder of the year. NAIDOC Week This week we join Australia in […]

Loading allowance for teachers

Loading allowance for teachers

By Nasik Swami Good news for teachers who go and work in regional schools in South Australia. Minister for Education Blair Boyer has announced that the loading allowance for teachers in rural South Australia will become an ongoing payment from 2024. This means anyone who is eligible to receive the allowance in the 2024 school year, including those who currently receive it and those who move to a regional school or preschool, will receive the country incentive zone allowance for as long as they stay in the country. Mr Boyer said currently, the Country Incentive Zone Allowance expires after five or eight years, depending on the remoteness of the location teachers work in. He said this change will help attract teachers to work in the country and support teacher retention in regional areas, ensuring staffing continuity to support student learning. “Growing up in a small country town, I know firsthand […]

Naracoorte South Primary School – 22nd June 2023

By Ms Edwards, Principal Refugee Week Did you know this week we celebrate Refugee Week? Refugee Week is an annual event in Australia that is celebrated from the 18th to the 24th of June. It is a time to acknowledge the contributions, resilience and courage of refugees, asylum seekers and their families. Our school understands the importance of promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity. It is also a time to appreciate the immense contribution that refugees make in our local community. Refugee week is so important to us as it helps raise awareness and inspire action towards creating an inclusive society for all. We encourage all parents and guardians to have conversations with your children about refugees and the significance of Refugee Week. Welcome to NSPS! A big warm welcome to Avi Khinda, who has joined Miss C and Room 4 Reception students. We wish you all the best at NSPS. […]

Naracoorte Primary School – 29th June 2023

By the Leadership Group: Rob Sandercock, Andrea Lawrie & Lucy Possingham Well, what a fortnight it has been. Somewhat damp underfoot with a flooded carpark, a few roof leakages and wet weather recesses and lunches all have added to the usual daily events at NPS. It is hard to believe that the term has almost come to an end. It has been a very productive term with a variety of achievements across the school. We started with the Colour Run in Week 1 (only to have it postponed due to rain), followed by South East Cross Country, Choir performances, Pedal Prix, a parent reading workshop, Sapsasa and a cookout to name just a few of the major happenings. Many more activities have taken place inside and outside the classrooms with exciting learning occurring in all year levels. Is it any wonder that the term has flown by? Reports Andrea, Lucy […]

We are a New Metrics School! Naracoorte High partners with University of Melbourne

By Naracoorte High School Universities and leaders in Business across Australia have been in discussions about the skills students leave school with, and how what were traditionally known as “soft-skills”, for example Communication, Collaboration and Quality Thinking, are actually essential to success. How can information about these skills be captured in a reliable way, and how does this form a part of University entry requirements, or used in a pathway to employment? In 2022 and 2023 Naracoorte High has been a part of a Research Project with the University of Melbourne, a partnership which centres on the assessment and recognition of complex competencies, such as those listed above. Naracoorte High has been working in the area of Agency in Learning, determining how schools can work in partnership with families and community to give students the skills to independently know what to learn, how to learn it and who to learn […]

Need for specialist teachers

By Nasik Swami Many country schools are facing huge challenges in attracting and retaining specialist teachers, says South Australian shadow minister for education John Gardner. Mr Gardner said the specialist subjects included math, design and technologies, and certain language subjects. “As we came out of the COVID pandemic, the former Liberal government introduced a Country Education Strategy, which included a range of funded measures particularly designed to increase the flow of graduate teachers successfully settling into country communities, to help them stay longer and hopefully make their homes in new towns,” he said. “It remains to be seen whether the new government’s policy mix will prioritise this area successfully.”  To help retain students in country public schools, Mr Gardner has called on the Education Department to ensure that schools provide young people with every opportunity to engage with local businesses and training providers to pursue traineeships and apprenticeships as they […]
