NLC tours Frances

NLC tours Frances

By Chris Oldfield. THE Frances community will soon boast a BMX track for residents and visiting families to enjoy. The community also hopes to sell its Town Hall and pump the proceeds into upgrades at the Frances Recreation Reserve. It is home to various sporting groups including Border Districts footballers who train in the dark with no lights in one pocket of the oval. And, as the fire season looms, a “wick” full of native vegetation and weeds needs to be cleared along the disused railway line stretching about 5km between Little Desert National Park and Frances. Those were some of the items raised by Frances Progress Association chairman Danielle Moore during a visit to the township by Naracoorte Lucindale Council for its August meeting. Several councillors met in the Town Square before the August 22 council meeting to view the completed $212,000 nature-based project which opened in November 2021. […]

KNT Preliminary Final action.

2023 A Grade Preliminary Final – Mundulla v Kingston

By Barb Altus. In the closest Preliminary Final in living memory, Kingston won their way into their first Grand Final in the KNT and their first since 2000 with a behind scored after extra time. Mundulla started well when, after minor scores by each team, Mundulla’s Grosser and McGrice forced the ball to Studham who wheeled and goaled two minutes in. After another two behinds by the Saints and determined defence by Gambranis their Captain Tom Rogers directed the ball to Harding who passed to Warner who kicked truly to give Kingston the lead fourteen minutes in. The Tigers levelled the score with two more minor scores before Kuchel and Ballinger drove the ball to Noll who snapped accurately to retake the lead. The Moots kept attacking but only managed another three minor scores, including one shot which hit the post, before the Saints also registered a behind after the […]

Kids with picky palates

Kids with picky palates

By Triple P: Positive Parenting Program. Children who are ‘fussy eaters’ are a common concern for families and can often be a source of anxiety and worry for parents and carers. Experts at the Triple P – Positive Parenting Program are giving families simple and practical tips to inject some more joy and adventure into mealtimes. Research has found up to 50 per cent of children may be described as ‘picky eaters’. While there’s no universal definition of fussy eating, Triple P International Head of Training Dr Alan Ralph, says that it can leave parents and carers feeling stressed and worried. “Fussy eating can include things like refusing to try new foods, preferring certain textures and tastes or refusing to eat fruit or veggies,” Dr Ralph said. While it’s a normal part of childhood development, he says, it can leave parents and carers feeling stressed and worried that their child […]

KNTFL Preliminary Final results

Footy report

Either Border Districts or Kingston will win their first ever KNTFL A grade premiership this weekend after both qualified for the grand final. While Border Districts won their way into the grand final the previous week, Kingston defeated the hot favourites Mundulla in the preliminary final at Bordertown last Saturday in an absolute thriller. In what could be a first for the league, double extra time was required to split the teams after they were tied at full time, and also after one period of extra time. Perennial grand finalists Mundulla started the game the best to lead by 8 points at quarter time, before Kingston took control in the second to lead 46-27 at half time. Mundulla narrowed the margin to 13 points at the last break, but were kicking inaccurately with a score of 5.12, trailing Kingston’s 8.7. In a frenetic last quarter, Mundulla came hard again, winning […]

2023 Reserves Preliminary Final – Kingston v Keith

2023 Reserves Preliminary Final – Kingston v Keith

By Barb Altus. Kingston opened the scoring with two behinds in the first ten minutes, then they locked the ball in their forward line where Tapfield kicked truly. Keith’s Johnson and Wilsdon were working hard in defence and Callum McMurray, Mitchell and Mitchell were attacking strongly, and the Crows replied two minutes later when Ryan booted the ball goalward where it rolled through the big sticks, before the Saints’ Benson turned defence into attack and Rothall made no mistake. The Crows attacked again but only a minor score ensued and at quarter-time Kingston led 2-2-14 to 1-1-7. The Saints again scored a behind in the first minute of the second term before Watson squeezed the ball through the goals from a tight angle. Keith replied with a minor score, followed by a major by Mitchell, then Farmer worked the ball to Trowbridge who kicked accurately. Kingston’s Benson, Cousins, Stenner and […]

The Smith Family Winter Appeal

The Smith Family Winter Appeal

Your say: Doug Taylor, Chief Executive Officer, The Smith Family. I’m writing to express my deep appreciation and thanks to everyone across South Australia who supported The Smith Family’s 2023 Winter Appeal. It goes without saying that the last few years have been incredibly hard on all Australians – we have gone from the COVID-19 pandemic to the middle of a cost-of-living crisis. Both have had a significant impact on our feeling of stability and our plans for the future. And while many of us are struggling, it’s the Australians who have the least who have been impacted most. Living in economically unstable times is particularly difficult for young people, and this is even more true for children living in poverty. School can be a great constant, and all children should feel confident enough to participate fully, so they can get the most out of their education. We know that […]
