Naracoorte Market Report: 29/08/2023

Naracoorte Market Report: 29/08/2023

By Tim Delany. Cattle: LWB 13 – LWY 347 – LWC 176 – OAY 3. Naracoorte agents offered a smaller number of 539 cattle which was 192 head less. There was a slight decrease in overall quality as it varied from very good to average when compared with last week. However the yarding did have some excellent heavy cows, younger cattle with cover and some well presented grown cattle within the trade run. The regular field of buyers attended not all operating fully. It was a close to unchanged cow market with the younger and grown steers selling from generally firm to a few cents dearer. Grown bulls did sell to less demand and were from 5c up to 14c/kg cheaper in places. Young steers to the trade sold from 270c to 350c, heavier steers above 400kg lwt made 264c to 310c and the younger heifers were mostly from 260c […]

Bridge Club results

Bridge Club results

By Bridging the Gap.Twenty ladies played 30 boards last week & it was a difficult decision making day for both directions! South suffered with few points & there were only 7 hands in either direction that had 25 or more combined points to confidently bid to game. Congratulations to Liz Ogilvie & Sue Hood who were N/S winners with 59.48%, followed by Sandra Haynes & Sally Macdonald who scored 54.90%. Great result for Jill Perkins & Sars Crawford winning E/W with 59.27% closely followed by Helen Edwards & Jenny Pridham on 58.44%.  In the illustrated board neither direction had an 8 card ‘fit’ in any suit.  Although E/W collectively had 22 high card points, a No Trump bid was potentially disastrous considering North’s 6 Diamonds plus E/W were Vulnerable! Bidding was tricky for both sides & consequently there were 5 different bids. Not one of the 5 bids was successful […]

Pasin ponders phone towers

Pasin ponders phone towers

By Chris Oldfield. MEMBER for Barker Tony Pasin would prefer a different funding method than the “all or nothing” approach of Telstra’s Connect Limestone Coast project. The $40 million project involves 27 phone towers scattered across the region, each costing $1.5 million. But the project relies on Federal funding for 50 percent of the cost. […]

Lucindale Ladies Golf: 30th August 2023

Lucindale Ladies Golf: 30th August 2023

By Rosie Legoe. Fine weather prevailed for the 18 golf ladies who played the 3 rd & final round of Bricey’s SE Collision Repairs Par competition. The members of our club would like to thank Leon for his continued loyal support of the Lucindale Country Club, we’re all very grateful. It was also the final round of the Olympic Golf Game which was instigated this year after an enterprising member’s suggestion. It’s a fun & novel competition comprising of 2 specific rounds in each of the Olympic Stroke, Stableford & Par games during the golf season. The best score from one of the rounds in each event is accumulated to discern the Olympic Gold & Silver winners. We were thrilled to see Annie Haynes back at the club after her various flights overseas & the Kimberley area. We were also thrilled to welcome Daniel Flint from Wangolina who offered a […]

#matessavingmates Inc.

#matessavingmates Inc.

By Mel Tiver. #matessavingmates Inc. is a not for profit group which was started after a founding member lost her husband to drink driving last year. This started a manic desire to try and prevent drink driving from shattering the lives of other families and small communities. We sought the sound advice from a friend with extensive business experience and managed to entice her to join the crew. We then went ahead and created a group that can do what we want it to do, be all about community, education and maybe even save a life. Through fundraising including a social knockout bowls night which will be held annually in Padthaway and generous donations from businesses and corporations we were able to purchase a Toyota Hiace 12 seater bus for people to hire. We now have our bus ready for hire and being a smaller bus, we’re hoping people will […]
