Naracoorte Mothers Group
By Jo Vine The Naracoorte Mothers Groups were set up with the aim of connecting local Mum’s who missed out on having their very own mothers group during the last 3-4 COVID years, when such groups were cancelled. We have had over 70 registrants and will run 6 groups in total. So many people stay connected throughout life with other parents and children they’ve met through their mothers groups and with all the isolation which occurred during COVID, we wanted to make sure everyone had the chance to have their own Mothers Group, even if their children were no longer babies. The response to the groups has been overwhelming and many stories have been shared and new connections made with such fun along the way. The Groups have been supported by both the SACWA who have allowed us to use their rooms and provided volunteers, as well as the Naracoorte […]
Redlegs Hockey Club
By Amanda Davey Redlegs Hockey Club is a well established club which is part of the Naracoorte District Hockey Association. Redlegs has been running for over 40 years with some of the original members still contributing towards the club. Our focus as a club is about having fun while getting fit and getting together as a strong community club that supports one another. We have many families playing with kids as young as 4yrs and adults into their 50s. As a club there are a lot of members putting their hand up supporting the club in various ways from canteen duties, umpiring, coaching, fundraisers and it’s this kind of club support that allows our club to thrive. Currently we are fundraising to keep our fees low for the following year making it affordable for the whole family to join in. The next generation of up and coming hockey stars are […]
The Nurtured Village Upper South East
By Molly Hannaford The Nurtured Village is a nationally registered maternal mental health charity that relies on the generosity of our community to support young mothers and families around Australia. Myself (Molly Hannaford) and Emma Mehlhopt are proud to be supporting an Upper SE Limestone Coast branch that services Naracoorte, Lucindale, Padthaway, Bordertown, Mundulla and Keith. Our goal being to bring back the traditional village of support in early parenthood. Each month, with the help of community members and The News Gives Back program, we knock on a families door with a car boot load full of donated home cooked meals, baby essentials, non-perishables and small gifts in an effort to provide practical support to families, express solidarity, kindness and in the process, forge villages in our community. Reminding them no matter how deep the trenches of parenting feel, there is a tribe of people who are tunnelling with them. […]
Spending welcomed in MacKillop
Your Say: Nick McBride MP, Member for MacKillop The Member for MacKillop, Nick McBride MP, has welcomed specific spending on Education and Health in this year’s Labor State Budget, but says there are still many areas that need to be addressed in the region. Mr McBride says he was pleased to see money directed towards upgrades to ageing school infrastructure, including a massive $9.7 million to the Meningie Area School. “The Meningie Area School has plans for a new Administration and Library area. I advocated to the Education Minister for this upgrade, and am pleased to see that the Government has listened and chosen to invest in this school.” Other schools in MacKillop to receive funding include the following: – Coomandook Area School – New science lab and LED lighting – Naracoorte High School – Refurbishment for music area – Naracoorte South Primary School – refurbishment of toilet facilities – […]
