Need for specialist teachers
By Nasik Swami Many country schools are facing huge challenges in attracting and retaining specialist teachers, says South Australian shadow minister for education John Gardner. Mr Gardner said the specialist subjects included math, design and technologies, and certain language subjects. “As we came out of the COVID pandemic, the former Liberal government introduced a Country Education Strategy, which included a range of funded measures particularly designed to increase the flow of graduate teachers successfully settling into country communities, to help them stay longer and hopefully make their homes in new towns,” he said. “It remains to be seen whether the new government’s policy mix will prioritise this area successfully.” To help retain students in country public schools, Mr Gardner has called on the Education Department to ensure that schools provide young people with every opportunity to engage with local businesses and training providers to pursue traineeships and apprenticeships as they […]

SA grain growers to shape research investment
By Grains Research & Development Corporation (GRDC) This month, SA grain growers in the south-east of the state are invited to help direct how their levies should be invested in research, development and extension (RD&E) for the grains industry. Australian grain growers pay levies on 25 grain crops to support industry-relevant RD&E. The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is tasked with investing these funds on behalf of the industry. GRDC’s National Grower Network (NGN) brings together growers and grains industry stakeholders to directly engage with GRDC to help develop locally relevant RD&E investments. Four National Grower Network forums will be held across SA in June: Coonalpyn (June 26), Naracoorte (June 27), Loxton (June 28), and Bowhill (June 29). Caravan parks improving
By West Wimmera Shire Council Edenhope Lakeside Tourist Park $1.4 million project continues with the frames and trusses for the brand-new amenities block are now completed, marking a significant milestone in the park’s development. The block will look out to Lake Wallace and include a veranda on the front. Kaniva Poolside Caravan Park visitors are now enjoying brand new amenities and grounds, thanks to a $593,000 upgrade. The park has undergone a significant transformation with the construction of a brand-new amenities block, that includes male and female toilets, accessible toilets and showers, laundry facilities, a baby-changing station, and a contemporary camp kitchen.
