Record prizemoney for club’s big day

A record $176,500 prizemoney is up for grabs at this Sunday’s 2024 MiniJumbuk Naracoorte Cup meeting, described as an important day for the local racing club and the town. The meeting is the climax of a busy and exciting weekend in Naracoorte, which hosts both the Taste Festival and MiniJumbuk golf day on Saturday, followed by the Cup calcutta on Saturday night.

Don Wray Room to honour club supporter

Legendary club supporter, the late Don Wray, will be honoured at Sunday’s 2024 MiniJumbuk Naracoorte Cup meeting. The founder of Mini Jumbuk, Don passed away in October, and to honour his outstanding contribution to local racing, the Naracoorte Racing Club has named its committee room after him.

Australia Day: Everyone is free to celebrate

ONLY the wind broke the silence of an Australia Day crowd as guest speaker James Darling AM highlighted legislation of January 26, 1949, which meant all Australians, without exception, were free to celebrate the day.
On that date the Nationality and Citizenship Act became law and resulted in every Australian becoming an Australian citizen, regardless of their race, gender, age, culture or background.
“Before that day, there was no such thing as an Australian passport or an Australian citizen,” he said.
“Before the 26th of January 1949, those born in Australia, indigenous Australians included, were deemed British subjects under the governance and laws approved by the British monarchy.
