Your Say: Ken Grundy, Naracoorte
The Albanese Government has played the three card trick over immigration reduction. First they increased the intake to record numbers and then offer a reduction leaving the intake well above what most people realise could be accommodated.

Meetings and procedure
Your Say: Ken Grundy, Naracoorte
Meeting Procedure
The radio announcement that Council would not purchase the ANZ Bank site was appropriate wording for a news item but the actual resolution at the Council meeting was probably worded differently. Councils or any Committee are to decide things in positive terms.

Silly season
Your Say: John Randell
I know that Christmas time can be classed as the silly season, but surely Naracoorte Lucindale Council must win the Gold Logie? In the week leading up to Christmas I witnessed a full road building crew rebuild the 100 metres of Schinckel Road that runs east of Cedar Avenue.

Power pain
Your say: Cliff Hignett
Thanks Nasik Swami for the sage advice in your article ‘Switch it off’ (NEWS 13/12/23). Indeed! The best way to save on power bills is to switch off and save power. What puzzles me, is that in the story, nearly filling the second page of the paper, there was not one word about how to save power or save money on power bills.

Your Say: Middle East solutions
Your Say: Philip Cornish
The Middle East is a flashpoint of concern for much of the world at this moment in time. With many claims and counter claims for the holy Land of Israel, how do we make sense of it all?

Your Say: Murray Darling water buybacks
Your Say: Cliff Hignett, Naracoorte
This week, Tony Pasin voted against the Murray Darling plan water buybacks. Once again, he has sold out the electors of Barker. The whole purpose of the buybacks is to ensure that the river continues to flow – just a little bit – even in times of drought.

Mobile phone coverage in the Limestone Coast
Your Say: Tony Pasin MP, Member for Barker
The Premier’s recent announcement regarding mobile phone coverage in the Limestone Coast attracted significant media coverage, and you could be forgiven for thinking that as a result 27 new mobile phone towers will be built across the region.

Voice to Parliament
Your Say: WT Pomery, Naracoorte
Although the ‘Voice to Parliament’ is now history and should be forgotten as the result was the majority noted no. Mr Albanese’s grasp for power was all for nothing. I thought I should reply to Cliff Hignet’s letter where he accused me of being a one-eyed supporter of the Liberal party and was influenced by Peter Dutton’s call for a No vote.

“To Park or Where to Park – that is the Question?”
Your Say: Ken Grundy, Naracoorte
Council has sought community consultation regarding two possible positions which could be transformed into parking spaces. There are very few occasions when we find many vacant parking spaces in our CBD, so I appreciate Council considering the opportunity to create additional parks when the chance arises.

Home insurance 2023
Your Say: Heather Heggie, Naracoorte
Insurance Companies have been losing money in disasters particularly over the last 5 years, globally. California has a crisis with house and contents insurance as has Australia now – not only with people being caught out uninsured but with unprecedented fire and flood events and contemporary building materials which are in some cases, very flammable.

Council amalgamations
Your Say: Ken Grundy, Naracoorte
Local Government is once again in the spotlight for matters including amalgamation and lack of nominations at election time. Some suggest voting should be compulsory but a responsible vote will be best achieved where only the interested voters participate. What benefit would result from the disinterested voters’ influence?

Teacher recruitment
Your Say: Nick McBride MP, Member for MacKillop
Parliament sitting: 27th September 2023
I rise today to highlight a change in one of the Department for Education’s policies that I hope will encourage more teachers to move from interstate to our regional areas. As we know, there is a chronic teacher shortage in South Australia. […]
