Kingston v Border Districts

Border Districts had a strong start to their game against Kingston to be up 13-4 at quarter time. Excellent play from Paige Jolly and Abbie Murdock saw Kingston have a great second quarter with 6 goals to each team. Sydney Schultz and Naelani Murphy played consistently all game for Border Districts and it was great teamwork through the centre feeding the goalies well. Kingston showed a great team effort with many players playing in positions they do not normally play in. Border Districts finished the game well securing the win, 30-22.

Nominations open for Barker Volunteer Awards

Shire secures funding for key community projects

West Wimmera Shire Council has successfully secured state government funding to deliver a series of important upgrades to community and sporting facilities across the shire.

Council has received funding for works at the Serviceton Bowling Club, Edenhope Swimming Centre, and the Harrow Recreation Reserve.

These projects will address ageing infrastructure, improve accessibility, and support the long-term sustainability of valued community assets.

Low-deposit home loan products extended

Tiny piece wins big for Nicole

The Naracoorte Regional Art Gallery was bursting at its seams with visitors for the announcement of the winners in the 2026 Ibis Rising Art Awards.

With artists and winners ranging in age from four to eighty plus years, the entries were representative of the whole Naracoorte community and friends of the gallery. There were also entries from further afield including Mount Gambier, Nhill, and Robe.

About 130 people packed the building for the annual event with many prize sponsors, newcomers, parents and grandparents of student entrants, as well as the long-time supporters of art at Naracoorte in attendance.

Naracoorte misses out on Country Cabinet forum

While the state government’s Country Cabinet is set to return to the Limestone Coast next month, Naracoorte a major regional centre has been left out of hosting the key public forum where residents can directly raise concerns with ministers.

Instead, Mount Gambier will host the only open community forum, prompting questions about access for residents across the wider region.

The re-elected Malinauskas Labor government said it would continue taking decision-making out of Adelaide and into regional South Australia, with Country Cabinet meetings remaining a central part of how the government “listens, engages, and delivers”.

Grundy lists former council’s networks

VARIOUS lengths of roads which were part or fully downgraded or deleted from the council’s own Road and Stormwater Management Plans since 2019 were quoted by Cr Cameron Grundy at the April 14 SAP meeting.

“The 2019-29 Road and Stormwater Plan sets out that Naracoorte Lucindale Council had a road network of 1679km,” he said.

Teen’s powerful plea

A brave Naracoorte teenager is fighting not just for her own health but for thousands of Australians silently battling a debilitating illness.

Seventeen-year-old Mia McCarthy, a Year 12 student at Naracoorte High School, is speaking out about life with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), a chronic condition that leaves her struggling with “dizziness, faintness, brain fog, nausea and extreme fatigue.”

Diagnosed in 2025 after suffering symptoms since 2022, Mia describes herself as one of “the lucky ones” but says many others are not.

Grundy corrects Westell, Crossling

CR Cameron Grundy has revealed numerous roads either partially or fully deleted since 2019 from Naracoorte Lucindale Council’s road hierarchy.

He said ratepayers paid their rates in good faith and expected continued service, not reduced services.

As a result of finding the deleted roads, he has corrected council CEO Kelly Westell and Cr Monique Crossling. Both have previously insisted council had no deleted roads.

Higgins, James shine at Lucindale ladies stroke round

Last Wednesday, 18 Lucindale lady golfers enjoyed playing a stroke round sponsored by Naracoorte Betta Home. The members of the Lucindale Country Club have welcomed their generous support for over four years and encourage all members to reciprocate. Weather conditions were perfect and the course is looking immaculate, a great combination for good scores. Congratulations to Karena Higgins, A grade winner with a nett 71, a wonderful score for the second of four qualifying rounds of Club Championships. Karena rightfully commented on how privileged we are to be able to play golf considering the world’s current turmoil. Ladies president, Sharon Menz was runner-up with a nett 73. Huge congratulations to Judy James who played exceptionally well to be B grade winner with a nett 65, her handicap is now reduced by two.
