SE Veterans golf results

By Max Clifford At Robe today the field was 41 and the scoring was meagre. Players reported the course was tough. First Division was won by Kingston’s Milan Hodak with 35 from BTowns Baz Turnbull 34 and Millicent’s Bill Mullan on 32. The Second Div was won by Penola’s Trev Williams with 29 on countback from Rob Seymour and Rob Thompson 28 took third. The NTP’s were Brian Prosser, Rob Thompson, Gavin Sparrow and Gordon Fleming. The Ross Orchard trophy went to Dennis Smith and Tony Bolton and you needed 23 to get a ball!     Our next two games are both in Mount Gambier, Blue Lake on 14 August, and Attamurra on 28th. One of our hard working volunteers, Wayne Dunford deservedly took home the Scotch. Don’t forget were are on Facebook, search LSE Vet Golfers.  “Got the Snake”

By Sally Bywater Naracoorte v Keith An evenly contested first quarter saw Naracoorte take a two goal lead into the first break, 14-12. Lovely shooting from Emily Richardson saw Keith take the lead at half time by one goal, 25-24.  Tight defence from Sophie Henschke (Naracoorte) and great driving from Belinda Sinclair (Naracoorte) wasn’t enough to hold off Keith as they broke away in the third. Naracoorte steadied and made a last ditched attempt, but it was too late falling short by 1 goal, 47-46. A brilliant game for the spectators. Kybybolite v Penola A game of two halves. Credit to Penola for building their 20+ goal lead in the first half. Their defensive pressure and ability to capitalise on Kyby’s turnovers reflected on the score board. Penola up 41-22 at half time. By Nasik Swami  Bold measures and policies need to be put in place to solve the “crisis” facing police in Naracoorte and its surrounding towns. Shadow Minister for Police Sam Telfer says there are some “real challenges” facing police in South Australia that are having huge repercussions for those living in the region. Mr Telfer told The News that the recruitment and retention of officers was a huge challenge, with many police stations failing to get the required number of officers in a day. “The challenges with recruitment and retention of officers have been laid bare, with the latest statistics showing 248 officers left the force last financial year, which significantly outweighs the rate of recruitment,” he claimed. “Our police officers work so hard to keep our communities safe with the dwindling resources they have, but we have been told that there is a current shortfall of officers across the […]

By Nasik Swami A regional policing review team has been set up to examine police requirements in the Limestone Coast region. The review is part of the strategies employed by the South Australia Police to make communities in the region safer from criminal activities and increase police presence on our streets. SA Police told The News that they remained committed to the achievement of safer communities across regional South Australia despite the many challenges, ensuring police are in the right place at the right time, targeting the right people and issues. “Ongoing consultation within the community to identify and address issues relating particularly to reducing incidences of serious and fatal collisions on roads, family and domestic violence, child protection, vulnerable community victimisation, and preventing crime first is a key part of how we keep our communities safe,” a police spokesperson said. Environment of fear

By Nasik Swami Many children in the district are growing up in an environment of fear because of domestic violence, says a regional community family care organisation. Limestone Coast-based Centacare says their data shows many children from the area have developed unusual behaviour patterns because of their experiences at home. The executive manager for Domestic Violence, Homelessness, and Youth Services, Megan Welsh, told The News that domestic violence could have long-lasting effects on children’s development, behaviour, and wellbeing. “Children may feel guilty for being unable to protect their parent, blame themselves for the abuse, or even step in to try and stop the violence,” Ms Welsh said. She said living with constant trauma and stress affected a child’s development, regardless of whether they were physically hurt or witnessed harm done to family members. ‘’They may disengage with education because the violence at home makes it difficult to attend school regularly. Union: Not enough incentives

By Nasik Swami Give enough incentives to attract and retain police officers to work in rural South Australia. That’s the call to the government from the Police Association of South Australia, the union representing police officers. President Mark Carroll told The News that it was a “perennial challenge” to attract enough police officers to work in rural South Australia and then retain them over the long term. “One of the ways for SAPOL to achieve this is to ensure there are appropriate incentives for members to transfer into country areas,” he said. Mr Carroll said the South-east, unfortunately, was no exception to the wider staffing predicament, which was ubiquitous throughout South Australia Police. “As an example, the Naracoorte and Bordertown areas have a current shortfall of four permanent staff members. “Overall, SAPOL has a deficit of at least 200 full-time equivalent sworn police officers across the entire force,” Mr Carroll claimed.
