Once again it was wonderful having 28 bridge players who managed to play 28 boards despite the delay from a computer glitch, well done to competent Chris McDonald, for sorting it out and enabling the competition to continue. Huge congratulations to E/W winners Jill Redway/Rob Talbot with a fantastic 62.5% followed by Di Vine/Kathryn McCourt on 56.55% & not far behind were Meredith Lawrie/Jenni Castine on 55.65%.

Last week all Naracoorte RSL Bowling Club’s teams played at home and on Friday the ladies hosted Port MacDonnell. Robyn Hansen, Linda Prentice, Helen Brody and Steve Hansen had a fantastic day against Elaine Pruis’s side and won very easily with 36 shots to 8.

By Valma Jennings Thursday 1st February Robe Mitre 10 sponsored social bowls. Twenty Three players played 2 games of 12 ends, 7 pairs & 3 triples. We had visitors from Hawthorn in Adelaide, Kingston and Bircham Victoria. Runner-up on 34 pts were Rob Hooper and Darren from Hawthorn and the only 2 game winners on 58 pts were Josh Waddell & David Robinson.

A record $176,500 prizemoney is up for grabs at this Sunday’s 2024 MiniJumbuk Naracoorte Cup meeting, described as an important day for the local racing club and the town. The meeting is the climax of a busy and exciting weekend in Naracoorte, which hosts both the Taste Festival and MiniJumbuk golf day on Saturday, followed by the Cup calcutta on Saturday night.

Bridge: Don’t Bid Again

One of my firmly held principles is that after opening 1NT or a Weak Two, I will not bid again unless Forced or invited to do so. Stayman and Transfers count as forcing bids after 1NT and a single raise of 1NT to 2NT counts as an invitation, to bid 3NT with a maximum, or Pass with a minimum.

This week saw Kyby take on Casterton in very warm conditions played at South Gambier Football club. Casterton having won 100-0 in the previous round were always going to be a tough opponent but Kyby gave them a run for their money matching them score for score during the first half of the game.
