by John Elliott. Several things are going on here, even though the bidding is natural.  South has a long Diamond suit but does not persist when it is clear that North has a 5-card Major.  Responder’s Priorities At All Times are as follows : – Top Priority is to support Partner’s Major if at all […]

Border Districts and Kingston won the first two A grade games in the 2023 KNTFL finals series last weekend. In the qualifying final at Penola on Saturday, Borders were too good in the second half for Keith and won 10.11 to 7.7. In the elimination final on Sunday at Keith, Kingston were far too strong for Naracoorte and won 15.10 to 10.11. The results mean Borders advance to this Saturday’s second semi-final, while Keith will play Kingston in the knockout first semi-final on Sunday. The season is over for Naracoorte after their loss. In last Saturday’s qualifying final, nerves would have been high among the Borders faithful with their side not having played finals for many years. The match started evenly with Keith holding slight leads at the first change and half time, up 5.4 to 4.6. But Borders had a decisive third quarter kicking three goals to none, to […]

Opinion: Bush Turkey

Umpiring has unfortunately been back in the headlines in the last couple of weeks – after that goal umpire made a wrong call which apparently cost the Adelaide Crows a premiership. Now I know I might be biased as a non-Crows supporter, and even more biased because I support their hated rivals, but I still think the footy world has gone too bananas about the decision. Crows fans are just a bit too passionate at the best of times, but they’ve gone over the top on this one. Yes, it looks like the umpire made a clear mistake, and yes it was surprising and disappointing that they didn’t call for a goal review, since that seems to happen 20 times in games when no one cares – let alone at such an important time in an important game. I can at least see the situation from the Crows point of […]

KNTNA A Grade match reports

By Sally Bywater. Lucindale v Penola Back to winter netball in Lucindale against Penola. These two teams always have a good tussle throughout the court. Penola taking charge early, leading at the first quarter break 21-14. Lucindale making some great defensive turnovers in the second quarter and converting to turn the lead around. Lucindale coming […]

KNTNA Junior report – Round 16

By Georgia Gill In Focus – 13A Keith got the jump on Kingston in their clash shooting five goals in the opening term and holding their opponents scoreless. A more evenly contested second quarter thanks to Rasheed and Ogilvie kept Kingston in the game as both teams scored five goals apiece. The third quarter was a mirror of the second, both teams trading goals as the margin remained at five at three quarter time. Bennett and Zacker found another gear for their side as Keith rallied and extended their lead out to nine, winning 27 to 18. Kyby had a strong start against Mundulla with Redding shooting beautifully to be up by nine at quarter time. The second quarter was much more evenly contested as Mundulla found their rhythm with excellent passages of play from both Excell and Bennett. The third quarter saw Kyby assert themselves as a top five […]

Naracoorte A Grade table tennis report: 15/8/23

Naracoorte A Grade table tennis report: 15/8/23

By Michael Waters. Griffin had a big win over Troll on Monday night in A grade table tennis. Griffin won all three doubles matches that helped give them a 9-3 win. For Griffin, Steve Lawrie won 3 singles, Simon Smith won one single and Kevin Schultz won 2 singles. Kevin has been the big improver this season, and has gone from strength to strength, and this is the first time that he has won 2 singles. Maybe a sign of things to come. Troll fill in player Neil Golder won 2 singles, and Rob Copping won 1 single. Neil took the first set in the battle of the captains against Steve Lawrie, winning that set 13-11, but Steve slipped up a gear and won the next 3 sets, 11-8, 11-7, 11-7. Centaur cemented second spot on the ladder with an 8-4 win over Goblin. Centaurs Alan Martyn and Tom Randall […]
