A $35million sporting hub reliant on ratepayer cash has been officially ruled out by the Naracoorte- Lucindale Council. The council decided in its March meeting to handball the “project lead” back to the sporting clubs involved.

TO avoid possible duplication, no ratepayer cash will be spent on a biodiversity survey of Naracoorte’s North Parklands “until further notice” following an 8-2 vote. Livestreaming move

Good news for those who are interested in local matters. The Tatiara District Council has decided to livestream future council meeting to the public in a bid to provide greater accessibility. Council CEO Anne Champness told this newspaper that the livestreaming would enable interested people to view a council meeting without having to be in the chamber at 5pm on a Tuesday night.

Funding sought for Dirt Kart Titles

The Lucindale Karting Club needs financial support to host the 2024 Australian Dirt Kart Titles. Club representatives David Bull and Ian Rowlands addressed the Naracoorte-Lucindale Council’s January 23 meeting on the club’s request for financial support to host the event. According to meeting documents, the club has asked for a very significant contribution from council, comprising a financial contribution of $50,000 (this has been included in the income for the event budget) and an in-kind contribution of $10,000.

TWO Native Title Claims covering the entire South East region by various people of Aboriginal heritage, have so far cost the Naracoorte Lucindale Council $18,838.65. If successful, it is unknown what impact the claims will have on Crown land, be it privately or publicly owned.

And if the negotiations reach a favourable outcome, the agreement is expected to support the improvement of the reserve and the potential for growth in sports and recreation at Lucindale through one lease for the area.

Town Hall meeting for sports hub

THE time and date for a public meeting in the Naracoorte Town Hall regarding a $35m sporting complex, or two new basketball courts for $8 million, will be soon be announced. Last November an anonymous consultation survey was launched for four weeks, closing on December 12.
