Naracoorte Pistol Club

By Vanessa Mikutta Thank you to The News for their generous donation to our Club. With these funds we plan to start the next stage of the upgrade to our 50m range framework which was started at our last working bee. Our members are working hard to keep the facilities up to a high standard with many other projects to be started in the coming year. We are always on the lookout for new members – one way to do this is by holding “Come and Try” days. These are open to any group or individual. Our last one was held on the 20th May and was well attended. If you have any questions please contact our club via Facebook or by emailing naracoortepistolclub@gmail.com Editor’s Note: With this Give Back donation of $500 we have reached $99,799 donated to local service, arts and sports groups. Keppoch Hall Committee

Keppoch Hall Committee

By Narelle Brooksby Keppoch is located 30km north of Naracoorte on the Riddoch Highway and is predominately a primary industry area.  Its local Hall, built in 1953, is the only public meeting facility in the local area and is used for family celebrations, meetings and other functions. To comply with legislation, the Hall Committee are currently arranging the installation of disabled toilet facilities.  They are very grateful for the Naracoorte News Give Back Program donation to assist with the cost of this project.  The Committee would also like to acknowledge NLDC for their Community Chest Grant. Recently, Leanne Dolling was spotted reading the golf results while Stan Brooksby and Ian Ward were raking leaves.  They are some of the committee members who work hard to keep tidy the hall and surrounding grounds. The Hall is fully equipped to cater for up to 80 people and is available for hire. Please […]

Naracoorte Anglers Club

By Sharyn Weckert Naracoorte Anglers Club recently held their AGM & Trophy Presentations for the 21/22  season. We started with the fire pit lit up ready for a camp oven cook up. The meeting was held with 18 members present, not a great number but there were several apologies. Kevan Addicott remains as President for a 3 rd year as does PJ Boyanton as Treasurer. Unfortunately Sharyn Weckert will no longer be Secretary after a 4yr stint. That position needs to be filled and Sharyn will help out whomever takes that up. Thank you to returning committee members and we look forward to a great year ahead. The meeting finished and it was dinner time, after second helpings for some we had our trophy presentations. Congratulations to all winners and Champions, pictures of those in attendance are on the club Facebook page. We welcomed 2 new Life Members these being […]

Mosquito Plains Strummers

Mosquito Plains Strummers

By Dean & Marg Ludwig We are a diverse group of people of all ages and interests. The one thing that brings us together is the joy of playing an instrument, singing songs and making new friends. The group has been meeting each week for over five years in the Breakfast Room of the Naracoorte Hotel on Thursday nights from 7 until 9 o’clock. Most of our members had not played any instrument before joining and had never performed in public. We always welcome new members and provide encouragement and coaching and with a little practice you can soon be playing along to songs. We perform when requested for the pleasure we receive and would like to have some of our own microphones, leads and stands so we are able to present ourselves at varied locations. It is difficult to fit more than a dozen people all with instruments around […]

Naracoorte Caledonian Society

By Shirley Dickson Thank you so much to The News for the very generous donation. At the moment we are finalising details for our 125 th anniversary, so the money will help us celebrate this momentous occasion. We plan to hold a dinner, complete with haggis, and be entertained by the Naracoorte Pipe Bandand dancers. The society was formed on 30 November 1897 by a group of Scots who had settled in the area and has continued to encourage and support Scottish culture, including music and dancing. It was originally known as the Albert District Caledonian Society, as Naracoorte was in the electorate of Albert. We hold several functions throughout the year, including a ceilidh, a celebration of the Day of the Tartan on 1 July [on 1 July 1782, Scots were once again allowed to wear tartan] and a dinner in November commemorating St Andrew, patron saint of Scotland, […]

Friends of Naracoorte Caves

Friends of Naracoorte Caves

By Rebecca Lohmeyer Friends of Naracoorte Caves (FoNC) is a volunteer group who give their time to support the activities at the World Heritage listed Naracoorte Caves National Park. This includes maintaining and developing the gardens and helping control feral weed species. We also support the running of various events that take place at the caves and various current research projects that aim to protect and enhance the natural environs of the Caves. Some members work tirelessly to tend the gardens immediately surrounding the main buildings, regularly replacing old or decaying plants, watering, and weeding. Other members enjoy getting out and tackling invasive weeds that grow throughout the whole park and restoring vegetation. Currently we have been busy making bird and bat boxes to place strategically throughout the park. The Friends are very appreciative of the News Gives Back program and will use the donation to go towards safety gear […]
