Australia Day was a time to reflect, respect and celebrate for around 100 people who gathered at Lucindale last Friday. The day fired up with the Lucindale Scouts raising the Australian Flag. Event emcees Domonic Carter and Logan Whitford of Lucindale Area School then introduced a previous Citizen of the Year winner, Naracoorte Lucindale Council mayor Patrick Ross.

They come through in groups of 8 with 4 being selected to compete against a Robe team that included Stephen Kennett, David Robinson, Pat Lynch, Errol Jennings and Vic Dawson.

73 players came from around the region and played the Mt.Gambier course and good scoring was the result. Local lad Peppi Pace took out First Division on his first outing with the vets, scoring 39 points. How good is this he was heard to say! Chris Gabriel, another local, and Peter DeLaine from Robe had 38, taking the minor places.

Last Saturday saw the 8 th round of the U14 Hall Trophy. This week’s opponent for the Penola/Naracoorte U14 team was Millicent at McCorquindale Park. The pitch was freshly rolled, the sky was cloudy, and both teams were ready for a good game. Captain, Sid Ebert lost the toss and Millicent elected to bat.

Naracoorte agents yarded 1,353 cattle in a mostly good quality offering, made up of 903 young cattle, 404 cows, 16 bulls and approx. 30 open auction young cattle. The regular buying group were active in a mostly dearer market.

Both Robe teams took home wins, the Roosters happy to return the favour to Naracoorte after their Round 1 loss. The Koalas also took the two points against the Wombats.
