Entries open for Limestone Coast Wine Show

By Gretel Sneath, Limestone Coast Wine Show Entries for the 22 nd Limestone Coast Wine Show are now open! Judging for the highly anticipated event will return to Terra Rossa territory at the Coonawarra Hall from Monday, October 16, with previous LCWS panel chair Philip Rich set to take over from Tasmanian winemaker Sam Connew as chief of judges. Philip brings more than 25 years of experience as a passionate retailer, educator, wine show judge and wine writer. A former general manager of wine for popular Melbourne and Sydney restaurants Chin Chin and Kisumé, Philip now divides his time between looking after France Soir’s 6000-bottle cellar and wine list, conducting wine tours to Burgundy, consulting to wine importers and retailers, and contributing to the James Halliday Wine Companion. “Philip has chaired a number of wine shows including the James Halliday Chardonnay Challenge and Yarra Valley Wine Show, Margaret River Wine […]

Cash is lifeblood

Cash is lifeblood

Opinion: By Kim Radok, Credit Matters When we talk about cash in business from the perspective of our introduction, essentially, we are talking about the funds in the business’s bank account(s). We are not talking about cash as a payment methodology, although this is also an essential factor for the potential survival of a business. Cash in your business’s bank account(s) is the lifeblood of the business and a resource factor all too often minimised by the potential access of credit. The issue is that cash is the means of maintaining control over your business. Access to credit, whilst an attractive thought at first, when utilised, is also the start of potentially losing control of your business. There may be an argument, that access or finance drawn down for the right reason, i.e., the purchase of an asset to enhance the business’s earning potential, is an essential component in operating […]

Our cardio Phil dies

Our cardio Phil dies

By Chris Oldfield AFTER saving hundreds of lives in our district, and throughout South Australia, leading cardiologist Dr Phil Tideman OA, has died as a result of bowel cancer, aged 64. It was at Naracoorte and Robe that in 1999 Dr Tideman first teamed up with the Kincraig and Robe Medical Clinics, setting a blueprint for the rest of the nation to follow. At the time – following research he had done in the late 1990s – Dr Tideman was concerned at least three people aged between 50-70 in our region would drop dead each year from heart attacks. Additionally, our country people had a 20 percent less chance of heart attack survival than our city cousins. Dr Tideman was determined to change that statistic, and he did. Through his Integrated Cardiovascular Clinical Network (ICARNET) project, within five years he had bridged the gap. Dr Brian Norcock of Kincraig Medical […]

iPad’s donated to Longridge residents

iPad’s donated to Longridge residents

By Mary-Ann Koerner The local volunteers of the Naracoorte “Meals on Wheels” branch have again supported Longridge. Meals on Wheels volunteers donate their mileage reimbursement to their local social account, which is then paid forwarded, to support other local organisations charities. Some older people struggle with mobile technologies, often for reasons other than a lack of technological aptitude. The average smartphone measures 5 to 6 inches. This can make such a screen difficult for the older person with impaired vision to read and the screen size can also present challenges of manual dexterity for seniors who have arthritis or health conditions that cause weakness and unsteadiness in the hands. While it is still somewhat unusual for a senior to own a tablet, they […]
