Umpiring has unfortunately been back in the headlines in the last couple of weeks – after that goal umpire made a wrong call which apparently cost the Adelaide Crows a premiership. Now I know I might be biased as a non-Crows supporter, and even more biased because I support their hated rivals, but I still think the footy world has gone too bananas about the decision. Crows fans are just a bit too passionate at the best of times, but they’ve gone over the top on this one. Yes, it looks like the umpire made a clear mistake, and yes it was surprising and disappointing that they didn’t call for a goal review, since that seems to happen 20 times in games when no one cares – let alone at such an important time in an important game.
